St. Louis based graphic designer, Rylee Stafford, has been refining her skills in highly emotional based pieces. She combines melancholy, anxiety, and pain with realistic scenes not only showing her artistic skills, but also revealing the emotional journey she has experienced. Her use of discomfort allows Rylee to challenge the boundaries of emotion- utilizing heartache to tell stories, which explore the depths of change and growth within an individual.
Artist Statement
While the past cannot be changed, it is not forgotten and is a part of us. My emotional struggles are a part of me and I share those struggles in my work, not for sympathy, but so that others can understand why I am who I am and that they are not alone in this world. My subject matter is emotional war, whether it relates to anxiety, depression, the feeling of being overwhelmed, heartbreak, and disappointment in myself and in others. My work showcases that powering through adversity and surviving can be beautiful, as it transpires to everyone and is essential for growth. There is beauty in the horrors.
